Gameplay idea needed :D


Hi again!

This is just (another) short update related with current status and why there is no updates recently.

So, as I wrote in my previous post, I was working on terrain editor for my terrain rendering system and I also considered adding support for foliage like grass etc.

That is already more or less done. I added foliage system and expanded my editor to allow drawing of different foliage layers. Of course all that is still not perfect. Tools could give more control over how you can edit terrain and foliage layers performance is not the best, but I think the very basic part is done and for simple cases it should be good enough to prepare some locations.

Soooo, why there is no more progress? Well, that's because until now I worked on some basic stuff which doesn't need any specific game idea. Terrain system is something on it's own and may be used for any other project or purpose. My networking architecture is pretty specific for old-school MMORPG games, but it also doesn't required any specific game idea, because it may be adapted to different ideas and not implement any game logic yet. Auto updater system is also separate standalone module, not connected with any specific game.

Now when I have my terrain editor (more or less) ready, I wanted to update my test world to something more interesting, but to do that I need some idea for actual game. I mean, I could prepare some random location without any plan, but I feel that's wasting of time. If I need to spend some time working on new location it would make sens to prepare location which may be at least used later on.

I don't have any good idea in my mind regarding what player could do in this game. I don't want to aim for full MMO game, because I know I will never finish it, but if not aiming for full MMO game, with different equipment, quests, crafting etc. then what else could it be? I could even slowly working on making some MMO like game, but still, I could do that only if I had clear destination what I want to achieve.

Re-making any of existing MMO games makes no sense, because I won't be able to make anything better than big companies already did, so I thought maybe I could make some furry specific game. Something dedicated for furry community, but what features should such game have? I am still thinking about that, but I don't know exactly or ideas I have are not too convincing for me.

If you have any ideas about MMO like game (so game taking place entirely on the server with clients only connecting) and what furry features it could possibly have (furry features community would like to see in such game) and you are willing to share it, you can help me to make some plan about what I could possibly do and help me to select further direction.

If you also don't have idea or you are not willing to share it, that's also understandable and I will be just still thinking about something myself, but until I will find any good idea and prepare some plan, I think I won't work on this project too much or progress will be very slow.

It doesn't mean I won't work on it any more, but without good idea I will just put less time and effort in future of this project. I have another project of single player game, so probably I will work on that project again for some time until I get too bored and maybe come back to this one again (unless I will find good enough idea for this game earlier).

Yeah, so that's current status update. If you don't want to read all that here is short summary:

  1. Terrain editor I was working on is more or less ready and should be usable to make some locations
  2. I added foliage layers to my terrain system and editor too
  3. I think I need some gameplay idea and plan to push this project forward (if you want to share your ideas, that's welcomed)
  4. Until I get some idea probably progress will be very slow, because I will focus more on my other projects (not published yet)
